WHAT IS ColCx ?

ColCx is a voluntary carbon credit registry and certification platform operating in Colombia’s carbon market. It plays a central role in the issuance, tracking, and retirement of carbon credits-particularly those generated by forestry, REDD+, and land-based projects.

ColCx is a key registry for Colombia’s voluntary carbon market, enabling the issuance and tracking of credits-especially for land-based and REDD+ projects. It supports both voluntary offsetting and regulatory compliance, but faces ongoing scrutiny regarding transparency and governance.

WHY ColCx?

  • Certification and Issuance: ColCx acts as a certifier for carbon credits, particularly for projects focused on forest conservation, REDD+, and other nature-based solutions. Projects submit documentation and undergo third-party validation and verification before credits are issued.
  • Tracking and Accounting: The registry tracks the issuance, transfer, and retirement of credits, providing a record of transactions. This is crucial for ensuring credits are not double-counted or double-sold, which is a key concern in voluntary carbon markets.
  • Enhanced Corporate Sustainability: Net-Zero and ESG Goals: Companies can use COLCX to demonstrate progress toward net-zero and ESG objectives by transparently offsetting unavoidable emissions with high-integrity credits.
  • Many ColCx projects involve indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, providing financial incentives for forest conservation and sustainable land management.
  • This supports Colombia’s broader sustainable development goals and helps channel climate finance to local stakeholders.
