The Global Carbon Council is a leading international program for voluntary carbon markets, with a strong focus on environmental integrity, sustainable development, and supporting under-represented regions in climate action. Its certifications and credits are recognized by major international standards, positioning it as a key player in the global transition to a low-carbon economy.
GCC Facilitates Global Climate Action by Registering and certifying diverse greenhouse gas emission reduction or removal projects worldwide, with a focus on ensuring additionality and sustainable development practices. It also ensures that all projects contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as per host-country priorities, and that project construction and operations cause no net harm to the environment (ensuring environmental integrity) or society.
The Global Carbon Council sets robust standards for climate projects, ensuring that GCC-certified carbon credits represent real, scientifically grounded climate mitigation impacts and tangible contributions to sustainable development. The GCC aims to build a global carbon market that promotes ambitious climate action while supporting sustainable development. It supports a diverse range of projects, including renewable energy, methane avoidance, and more, with a focus on both environmental and social co-benefits.
Projects certified by GCC issues ACCs, each representing one metric ton of GHG emissions reduced, avoided, or removed and recognizes projects that mitigate six key greenhouse gases: CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, HFCs, PFCs, and SF₆. Projects that contribute to SDGs or commit to no net-harm to environment and society can receive additional certification labels, such as the Environmental No-net-harm Label (E+) and Social No-net-harm Label (S+).
GCC operates a voluntary carbon marketplace, enabling corporations and governments to purchase and retire carbon credits to offset their emissions.
