WHAT IS PURO EARTH ?

Puro.earth is a leading global carbon removal standard and registry platform focused exclusively on certifying and scaling engineered, durable carbon removal solutions. It is recognized for pioneering the first carbon removal standard in the voluntary carbon market, with a mission to mobilize the net-negative economy and help corporations achieve credible net-zero targets.

Puro.earth certifies only engineered carbon removal methods that ensure durable storage of carbon for at least 100 years, focusing on scientific rigor, transparency, and independent verification. As of 2025, Puro earth has pioneered and actively certifies the following five main carbon removal methodologies:

• Biochar– Biomass or biowaste is heated without oxygen (pyrolysis), producing biochar-a stable, solid form of carbon.
• Geologically Stored Carbon– Captured CO₂ (from the atmosphere or bioenergy facilities) is injected into deep underground geological formations, where it is permanently stored and further stabilized by natural processes.
• Carbonated Materials– Industrial byproducts or waste materials (e.g., steel slag, mine tailings) react with CO₂ to form stable carbonates, mineralizing the carbon for geological timespans.
• Enhanced Rock Weathering– Accelerates the natural weathering of silicate rocks by spreading finely ground rock on land, where it reacts with CO₂ and water to form stable bicarbonates.
• Terrestrial Storage of Biomass– Woody biomass is stored in conditions that prevent decomposition, locking away carbon for at least 100 years reducing risk of biomass clogging waterways and supports ecosystem restoration.
